Tschechei eng.Germany - Czech RepublicTour start – Saturday, 18th June 2011 The last weeks ahead of our departure were extremely stressful. Even on Friday, the last day before leaving, we didn’t make it to bed before 2 am in the morning, as there were just soooo many things to get done… Unfortunately, the night is pretty short, as the alarm clock rings at 4 am in the morning, meaning after only 2 hours of sleep. But actually, it doesn’t matter, we can’t find sleep anyway, as excited as we are.Our big day arrived and what can we say, it’s raining in showers and the wind blows really very hard. Awesome, looks like fun! Bea sorts the documents before we pack the bikes. At 9.30 am, meaning we were already very late, we finally leave from Bea’s parent’s home towards the gas station. Filling up the tanks and checking the tire pressure a last time. At least it stopped raining by now. The first meters with all the luggage are really shaky and for a short moment Bea asks herself in what kind of trouble she got herself into. Before we head to the workshop we make a quick stop at the warehouse Bruckner in Haiming to weigh the bikes. The next shock, 330 kg per bike and that’s WITHOUT driver!! Never, we expected it to be so much… When we arrive in the workshop, a big surprise is waiting for us. Our friends set up a huge poster and almost 50 people came with their bikes. Wow, we are impressed! Full of vim, we greet all of them, stop here and there for some chit-chat and photos of us are taken all the time from somewhere. We almost feel like some movie stars by now! ;-) After about half an hour we finally drive towards Burghausen together with the 50 other bikers. Hard to imagine how long this convoy of bikes is. At every traffic light someone revs his engine and just by the number of bikes everyone turns around looking at us. Just crazy! Something you probably only experience once in your life. When we arrive at the town square, a lot of our friends are already waiting for us. Even some people, which just read about our trip in the newspaper came to wish us good luck. Really crazy! Next to us is a wedding going on, but their celebration stands no chance with all the hustle and bustle of the biker crowd. What really made us happy, was that Tom, a friend we got to know via the internet after he had driven his motorbike to Mongolia last year, came all the way from Kissingen to wish us all the best. Wow, we are speechless! After about one hour we really have to make a move, otherwise we won’t get a single kilometer done today. As it’s time to say goodbye, we can’t help but shed some tears. Even though we are really looking forward to the adventure ahead of us, it’s still hard to part from our loved ones for such a long time! A lot of bikes accompany us for the start, some just for a few meters, others to Simbach, Passau, even into the Czech Republic, awesome! Now, as we are driving, we start to feel really tired. With the kick-off behind us and the pent-up tension dropping off, we come to realize how exhausting the past weeks really were. Our eyes almost fall shut and we really have troubles staying awake. In Passau we meet Franz from the Passauer Neuen Presse (local newspaper). He wrote the first article about us in spring and joins us as well for a while on his KTM. We really have to laugh when his bike dies on him several times as the battery is already quite weak, so that we even have to push him twice to get his engine running again, too funny! As it just doesn’t stop to rain, we decide that we won’t drive until Budweis but to get a room in Vimperk instead, shortly after passing the Czech border. Our friends Meter, Michi, Klausi, Jens, Krissi and Sabrina are still with us and even stay for the night. After having some beers together we all collapse in our beds very tired. But stop right there, next shock, Helle forgot the charging cable for his laptop at home! *ahahaha* guys… But even for this, we will find a solution somehow...As Helle did not only forget the charging cable but also some other things (guys!!!), we make a stop at a huge Hagebaumarkt (hardware store) to get silicone, spare bulbs and some more lashing straps. It comes in handy that the shops are open on Sunday in the Czech Republic.Afterwards we go to a electronic store to buy a multipurpose power adapter, so that Helle’s Laptop is back on power, now we got everythingWith the shopping marathon behind us, it already got quite late so that we look for the closest camp ground. We did not really get far today, but we are not in a hurry, right! We are lucky and can find a great camp ground, which is quietly located at a remote hillside. Even a common pantry area is there with a kitchen, where we prepare our dinner. Perfect! A Dutch couple are the only guest beside us, so that we have free choice of space. As they come by and spot our bikes they can hardly believe what we plan to do.They write down our website address and take photos of the bikes. He even gives us his name card, telling us to contact him if we should ever come to Amsterdam! The owner of the camp ground is blown away as well by our story and allows us to sleep in a small wooden hut for free. Furthermore, he gives us two beers and we get to know Vlatislav’s (as he introduces himself) interesting story, who looks back on a life of hard work before fulfilling his big dream of owning a camp ground. He has to save a lot of money to add new things here and there. His next big dream is getting a John Deere tractor to make his work easier. Therefore it is hard for him to understand why we Germans decided to give up everything and leave Germany to travel around the world, while living such a comfortable life there. We should rather buy a nice house and enjoy ourselves. Somehow it really made us think… By our standards, we move on quite early the next morning. The past days we never managed to make more than 100 km a day, as everything was still pretty chaotic, and the bad weather and the shopping tour on the second day on top of all… But today we want to get more kilometer done and head on towards the Slovakian border. Slovakia is completely different from Czech Republic, and if there wouldn’t be all the concrete housing blocks from the Communist era, you would almost feel like in Italy. Many new houses are built in the Tuscany style and the Forrest also seem to be a little Mediterranean to us. And it gets more remote, huge corn fields on both sides of the road and we can see a lot of flowers fields. No idea, which kind and what the people do with it, but in any case it looks very beautiful! To get more kilometer done, we drive on the speed way, unfortunately we get lost (once again) and we have to take the next exit, turn around and drive the whole stretch back… HELMUT!!! But now we really make headway, almost 300 km on that day. Very good! In between we stop in a village to buy food for dinner. No matter where we drive along or stop, people look at us as if we were aliens, some come and ask about what we are doing. Even when we drive through the roads people turn their heads for our fully packed bikes, quite funny! In the evening we drive on a small camp ground right in Zvolen. The camp ground is not that great, not to mention the sanitary installations. At least there is hot water, but that is the least you would expect for 15 € a night. Actually, we thought that the prices would go down the further we get to the East, but so far we did not really notice that. But things can always change (at least we hope so) … Just when we finished setting up the tent, it starts to pour down heavily. We hope that our tent will master this first big challenge without our stuff getting wet. We save ourselves to a terrace of a nearby hut, which is uninhabited and wait there until the shower is over while cooking spaghetti. As Helle already complained about being malnourished in terms of meat with three days of vegetarian food, Bea intentionally bought Bolognese sauce just for him. But too bad, as there somehow is not any meat in the sauce, while the photo on the label makes you think like there is (the words are in Slovakian of course). So there is only Spaghetti with tomato sauce, no meat. Sorry Helle! In the evening we contact Bevan, a biker from Kosice, which we got to know by the Horizonts Unlimited forum. He offered us a place to stay for the coming night. Nervously Bea is dialing the number, but it is no issue as Bevan speaks very good English and cordially welcomes us to his place! Later in the evening a Dutch couple drops by, parking their caravan some meters next to our tent. Somehow these Dutch are really everywhere! They are very interested in our tour as well as the bikes and go on to take some photos. By then it’s time to sleep, as we want to leave early the next day to reach the next target of the day „Kosice“. back Documents required for immigration: - Route: Burghausen - Passau - Vimperk - Budweis - Trebon - Jindrichuv Hradec - Trebic - Brünn - Uherske Hradiste - Uhersky BrodDriven kilometers from Burghausen: 600 KmPrice of petrol: 1,52 € (95 octane)Consumed petrol (both bikes combined) from Burghausen: 98 l / 149 €Currency: Koruna Local time: unchanged Transport: - Problems with the bikes: - At half past 9 on the next day we had breakfast, but although that looks really tasty, it may no taste so right, because the next goodbye is imminent. In steady rain the rest of our companions teke their way home. Now we are alone ....We sit until 14 clock in the hotel's restaurant and drink coffee, use the free Wi-Fi for some work on our HP and the first contact with our loved ones at home before we sattle back on our motorbikes in a short rain delay and ride towards Budweis. Ahh, as the nice girls from the hotel heard about our plans, they gave us a small discount on our room, how nice!
