TravelreportDuring our preparation time at home in Upper Bavaria, but also during our trip, we received an incredible amount of feedback on our proposal. Whether it's via email or guestbook on our homepage or on the many, many comments on our Facebook page.We are asked on a range of motorcycle modifications, as we have solved this or that bureaucratic obstacle or just like how we are or what are our plans for the next trip. However, we also get a lot of messages whith the content, that he or she would like to have a two years holiday, because many, so we have the impression, think, that our motorcycle trip around the world is nothing but one long vacation. For this reason, we want to describe you following our everyday life during the journey with the many tasks involved. On the one hand, so the word "long vacation" gets maybe a new meaning and all the travel and motorcycle enthusiasts who are following our site, can understand why travel reports and videos sometimes take a little longer in coming, on the other, so that others who perhaps are planning a similar journey can get an idea of the daily life of a motorcycle world traveler, because to ride your motorcycle around the world, is definitely hard work!Anticipation should be said that before such a trip you actually (as regarded afterwards) have no idea what one really expect on such a trip and what you getting yourself into. We have tried through several smaller trips - unfortunately more was not possible based on our previous jobs - (see Our last trips) to prepare ourselves on our upcoming adventure, including also to determine whether we both like this way of traveling at all. In the first weeks after the start of our journey we had even more the feeling just to take a short vacation trip than to travel now actually the next two years. After a few weeks we became aware step by step, however, that we now have to load and pack our bikes and pitching up and down our tent nearly every day for the next two years and that in rainy weather we simply cannot say "Oh, today we prefer to park the bikes in the garage, "or in the morning, we neither know where we will sleep, nor what problems we have to solve. Of course it is including exactly what constitutes the charm of a motorcycle trip around the world, but especially in the beginning you are still very uncertain, and in our case too inexperienced to enjoy this aspect of travelling really.Even the thought to leave our families and friends behind for such a long time is often present, because as nice and helpful the people are, that we meet every day, even we have found many friends among them, they cannot replace family or long-lasting friendships at home!So we were faced week to week with new tasks and challenges, and the further we moved to the east, the glaring differences between Germany and the countries of Eastern Europe were obvisious. But we grew with each new challenge, with each new task and after a few weeks, our attitude had changed markedly, a kind of everyday life in the journey had returned to us and the feeling just beeing on a short vacation trip, was now gone. We knew suddenly that this will be our life for the next few years. This type of travel, especially by motorcycle, all the nice people with whom we get in contact and all the daily small and big adventures, but also our everyday tasks, we have to manage despite some inconveniences and difficulties we listed below give us an insane amount of fun and just for this experiences and challenges we had sought. Now we have reached a point where we can definitively say:We have arrived! Arrived in a LIFE as a motorcycle world traveler. However, we have also heard of other traveller who have planned similar trips that they have canceled their trip just a few weeks after the start or sent home their motorcycles to travel further with a backpack, because they found out that their long-cherished dream of a motorcycle trip around the world is not made for them. Too demanding, too difficult with your own bike, too inconvenient in the tent, or, or ... Regarding afterwards, we understand them, because you cannot comprehend the REAL implication of a motorcycle world travel, even if you read a lot of books and travel reports and even not by watching a (albeit very well done) DVD of two jolly Englishman. Also small motorcycle tours through Europe shows you only a very small fraction of what it means to be on the road for months with the bike. Now we´ve made a very clear decision for us: we LOVE motorcycle travelling around the world! :-) We have learned that the current difficulties and problems that we have with the authorities and public servants, even to find the right way or have a suitable place to camp wild, simply belong to such a journey and that there´s always a solution for all these problems. We have learned to approach openly all people, to ask for help (which is incidentally the easiest and best way ever to solve a problem), be flexible, no matter whether it concerns our itinerary or the election of the next place to sleep and above all we have learned: No matter what happens and even if we are sometimes at first very angry, usually everything happen is always good for something else! :-)But enough of the many words and back to the topic:First let us deal with our basic, everyday tasks namely to get food and drink, to feed the bikes with matching fuel, to find a suitable and safe place to sleep for the night, to look for an ATM sometimes and to wash our dirty clothes . Sounds for Western European conditions very easily, but can be in Eastern Europe (and certainly also in many other countries around the world) to a full day's task.Usually our day starts to break our tent including the equipment, washing our dishes and put everything back on the bike somehow. Duration of the procedure approximately 1 1 / 2 hoursNext we have to look to fuel the bikes. As in Eastern Europe - with the exception of Mongolia and some parts of Kazakhstan and Siberia - the station network is relatively dense, we had regarding this never really problems with the supply, but with the filling up of the bikes, because this is different in Eastern Europe than at home. (More on this in our conclusion Eastern Europe)Small note about Mongolia: There were never any problems to find a gas station, but rather problems with the availability of the associated gas station attendant! :-)The gas station attendant in Mongolia is in fact usually never at a gas station, but at his home in the village, guarding sheeps or goats, at his neighbors or anywhere else. So if you want to fill up, you need first of all finding the gas station attendant!** The best works here, the following tactics. Tankwart - from wherever - pick up, fill up gas station attendant, bring attendant back - wherever - ... was being the good man gone in our case, usually by the locals or he himself came of Way down, but even that can sometimes take ...Everything but not so bad, because most are located around these "stations" around waiting locals who sweeten with one alcoholic delicacies like beer or vodka, the waiting time. So at least we've been refueled! ;-))Do we now get our gasoline problem is solved more or less well, so join us soon, the next task of the day, namely food and beverages. Live there in Eastern Europe, most of the people nor as self-sufficient (except in large cities), the goods offered in most stores, the recall, especially in the countryside more overly-corner shops, as not proper supermarkets, just lush is . One shop has no vegetables, no meat or cheese the next, and still others have no food or drinks. I.e. even when we wander after some long aimless (the recognition of grocery stores as such is just in Eastern Europe do not always sooo easy), finally a mom and pop have found store, so it does not mean that we then also get everything we wanted. Depending on the urgency of the required products then we have yet another 3 - 5 shops scoured, in the hopes to finally find what you want, or it was just once again biscuit with a dollop of mustard instead of bread with delicious sausage and cheese. That you then loose the odd hour or two needed for the search and the daily shopping is quite normal. As in Eastern Europe cash is the preferred means of payment (we had the "physical services" has never considered ;-)), we had from time to time enjoy with various ATMs. An ATM in the traveled so far from us to find countries, usually represented never a problem because the machines but often have a low lift-off limit, it's already happened frequently, that we still actually 3 or 4 different Banks had to look to get the desired amount of money together. Very annoying and time consuming something like that! Now that we have driven several hundred miles, and our responsibilities have solved more or less successfully, it is next to the sleeping area search. Since we camp wild as often as possible (for one course to save money, on the other hand, because we simply love camping), we have every day a new, appropriate and above all safe place for our tent and find the motorcycles and even though you might think that that should be in the far reaches of Eastern Europe is no problem too big, so we have often spent many hours looking for such places. Tickets for the play, especially the following criteria a crucial role:1. Is the route to our chosen location with our bikes at all vehicle access (ground too coarse, sandy, swampy, dense forest, etc.) and remains the route as even after an overnight rain still passable?2. Is it the end of the track a nice place aufzuschlagen around our tent? (Because what good is the best place to hide, if we can place out of sheer high scrub or rocky soil not our tent right?)3. If the chosen campsite tucked away, so that is not necessarily expected to unwanted nocturnal visit? (To learn about foreign people and their culture, is certainly an important part of our journey must take place but not necessarily of the night ...)4. If magic experienced the landscape, we naturally try us a place where a water, on a hill, a clearing or similar pick, yes finally lives with the eye! Above all, a stream or lake near the campground is worth gold, or has anyone of you ever washed without water or washing dishes washed? To find a suitable spot thus pass daily between 15 minutes to 3 hours, with the section should probably be 1.5 hours. Here we pick out one possible location, then they go off on a bike or explore on foot often in advance. If the court does not prove suitable, so we drive on and find a new job and the game begins again. Even if the now relatively sound loose, so the whole thing, especially if you have 5 or 6 digits has expired and still no suitable place was here, sometime quite annoying, time consuming and exhausting.Have we finally found a perfect place for our tent, it must next be established along with this equipment. Since there are still traditional roles ;-) Bea will then prepare our dinner, while taking care of the bikes bright and our equipment (tighten screws, crash damage repair, oil control, chain tension, etc.).Because, of course, to our normal driving day yet to join a variety of special tasks, be it spare parts for our bikes and our gear to be found, to plan the next route or to solve bureaucratic things, we are also in the supposedly free time in between is not really boring. Moreover, in most countries outside Western Europe some time "slow" runs, which simplifies the management of these things really are. So we quickly realized that we expect not only the above-mentioned problems of the day the same time with the double or triple time must, especially for "special duties" suggests the time factor is quite formidable to book what we want to illustrate briefly in the following examples:The oil change is on our bikes. In Germany it's not a big deal, just fast times to the nearest "dealer of confidence" driven, bought a can of motorcycle oil and away you go! In Russia, however, Bright was almost a whole day on the road, suitable only for motorcycle oil for our bikes to be found, from things like oil filters or the like, we do not want to talk here first! In the middle of Siberia, the porters to Bea's bike breaks down. As far and wide, no garage in sight, who felt able to weld the carrier, Bright has the first break point "splinted" with some wrenches and cable ties. With this "Behelfskonstruktion" Bea had to continue for whole 3000 km with full luggage load before we finally had a chance in Vladivostok, the luggage carrier to weld again. In spite of the really great support of the guys from the biker club "Iron Angels Vladivostok" was bright and Ilia, one of the guys from the club, almost a beaten unlimited travel and scour had several different workshops, and a "welder guru" was found, who felt able to solve our problem! To solve our ongoing Internet problem, we eventually decided to buy an Internet Stick, which works on the mobile phone network. Great idea, but we have also here the implementation cost for a whole day, because first of all we had to find an appropriate shop (not that difficult, because we are just in a big city were) next but should / sellers / in, of course, a few chunks speak English, which has been the difficulty of clearly screwed up. For in the first three shops where we were, we tried the nice Russian-speaking employees to sell anything, just kind of find no Internet Stick ... In Russia, anyone who even speaks fairly reasonable English is about as promising as hoped for an early expansion of the A 94 ...These are just some examples of how such "special tasks" can look like. Alone on this issue could probably write some travelogues now!To these must be one final thought: If we had on our trip so far not met so many helpful people, we would probably still somewhere in Eastern Europe in search of whateveralways! :-) But our experience has shown that there is no problem, it would not be solved, one must often bring only a lot of time and patience to deal with these things, not least because of language barriers, we mainly Eastern European countries had. And although we are at a linguistic level actually could not agree really, so we found through facial expressions, gestures, our great "550 View images for World Traveler" booklet, and especially by the willingness and efforts of the locals is always a solution no matter what the problem is times had to be solved again! Finally, we want to shoot films on the topic, travel reports, video cut, e-mail correspondence received and update our website and Facebook page. Contrary to many opinions these tasks an unimaginable amount of time working and ask questions during the trip dar. While the shooting is often more or less incidentally, it looks quite different from the movies. On a normal day we have at least 1 - 2 hours busy our cameras with tripods build on our bikes to go back to ride past the camera to film the scene again to turn over to the camera to go back and this again degrade. This game is repeated, depending on the landscape and the frequency of good motives, several times each day. In addition, we also filmed with two cameras, helmet, whose positions on our bikes and helmets will also be changed several times a day. Evening will be seen the entire video footage and then retired and archived, otherwise eventually lost the overview it. Write to the respective country trip, there were already reports required considerably more time. As we try to make our trip reports in some detail, Bea takes on average about 40 hours to write a travel story and the photos to select. Bright but then must then compress the selected images and incorporate the texts and pictures in our website, which will then again a full day to complete. In our video, it looks there, not much better. Emerged to pass a final video is about10 - 15 hours. The material of the respective country must be completely seen, are cut and processed accordingly. In addition, Bright must of course still the right and above all royalty-free music found on the www, which also claims somewhere between 3 and 5 hours time.Even the e-mail correspondence (nevertheless, it naturally very pleased when people write us!) Is often very time consuming. Just last month, about 180 emails from friends, family, and many interested parties had accumulated, we naturally very happy to answer all as soon as we have an internet connection and a bit of time. That the answers but also devours hours, especially if we again 1 - 2 weeks without the Internet and are accumulated in the meantime has a real mountain of emails that will be processed as quickly as possible, should be clear to everyone. So at this point, make an appeal to all: Do not be angry if the answer to your emails and guest book entries a few days or even weeks, unfortunately, sometimes you can wait on it! We answer in each case to every mail we receive and we are always happy about the interest in our tour, a good country and travel tips and and and ... it can only give sometimes take a little longer! :-)Finally, we need to update our website and Facebook page and answer our e-course, a sensible and, above all, inexpensive Internet connection, which represented mainly in Eastern Europe is often a challenge in itself and not conducive was the timeliness of our website.Nevertheless, this also makes us work as a rule very much fun, if only to our families, friends and other interested parties about our trip to keep the database current. In addition, we are pleased, of course, the more that we get so much positive feedback and that the interest is so great about our trip and our website! Many of you write that they go through our reports and videos with quasi mentally to travel. That we bring in our travel reports to smile often makes us very happy and that we show in our videos and even scenes in which not everything is running smoothly, so desired, because that's the reality. And that's exactly how it should be, that's why we just using our website and everything that goes with so much work to "do" because we want others to have fun, join us on our journey and we want people see what really does motorcycle trips!Well, for some might look this site like very much bla bla without any pictures, maybe a little bit whiney and blusterous, where we actually have the chance to live our dream, a dream which many only dream about in their lives. No, this site of course should not have the meaning of this and hopefully you don´t understand like that! We just want to explain that a motorcycling worldtravel is not just a long-term holiday, in which everything is always like summer, sun and sunshine and where we just lying on the beach, watching the sun shining on our belly and relaxing! A motorcycle worldtrip is often hard work, a fight with government and bureaucracy, no shower for days and often no proper food. But it also means incredible experiences with foreign countries, their culture and the people there, which you never would have for sure as a package tourist. Especially and just because we are traveling by bike & tent, which brings us closer to a country and its people than even by a Four by Four, we have the opportunity to discover the world in a very special, sometimes exhausting, or annoying, but mostly in an incredible and enriching way, and we don´t regret any second of our trip and hope that we are able to continue our travel for many, many days, weeks and months to be on the road! And as the very last it should be mentioned:No, just because we are still 2 months in arrears with our travel reports, unfortunately,, it does not mean that we have canceled our trip or have no desire to make more Travel reports online! We are working on, so be patient!O.k. one more thing, then it's really finish:On the homepage of our website you can always see at the top, where we are up to date and further down you can find under "News" a summary of everything we have recently updated on our homepage!
