Big Rosi

...the existing crash bars had been reinforced to avoid crash damages! ;-)

Of course, the fork of Bea´s Alp had been overhauled and, to make the grades of such an trip, an adjustable White Power shock absorbers had been fitted.

At the beginnig, all unnecessary parts had been removed and the engine was subjected to the usual procedure like valves adjusting, carburettor synchronization, oil change and so on… at the right picture you can see the emergency operation with an infusion…

Conditon, in which we bought it in autumn 2009. Only the ugly pale red topcase we had removed an Helle hid it in the darkest corner of our basement.

... and how men love to do it... directly decomposed… As we bought Bea´s Alp only in october 2009 due to the weather we hadn´t enough time for extensive road tests. So Helle immediately had started to buy the needed accessoires and spares to rebuilt the bike at Bea´s opinion…

Bought...

back

Bea had´nt been spared, too. She had to do the “ameba-jobs” ;-)

...like grinding, adhesive labels removing and staple-gun staples elimination.

Consecutively a minor list of the backfittings we had done at Bea´s bike:

- all fairing parts and the fuel tank lacquered in cement-grey;- rear with new rear light and mini indicators fitted (Louis);- self-made headlight protector; - auxiliary headlights right and left assembled (see Helle´s backfittings);- fork overhauled;- adjustable shock absorbers fitted (White Power);- crash bars modified;- self-made engine guard built with an 4 mm aluminium checker plate;- old gas mask box as tool compartment fitted (see Helle´s backfittings);- pannier racks made by an 18 mm stainless steel tube;- hand protectors assembled (see Helle´s backfittings);- 32 L aluminium panniers (Stabilo Fachmarkt), i had amplified Bea´s amplified panniers once again, because Bea often get tired and than she lays down herself including the whole bike ;-)- pannier mounting kit assembled (see Helle´s backfittings);- adapter plate bottle holder and adapter plate spare jerrycan assembled at the panniers (see Helle´s backfittings);- chain guard made in stainless steel;- seat shortened and new upholstered (Jungbluth);- all bars, chain kit, fluids, wheel bearing and so on changed;- foot brake lever extention (see Helle´s backfittings);- front mudguard added higher (see Helle´s backfittings);

- 25 L fuel tank from an Africa Twin RD04 mounted, as it is considerably bigger than the standard fuel tank from the Alp (we had found it relatively cheap in the Transalpforum, unfortunately it had some damages we had to align);- side covering from the Transalp shortened and adapted to the new fuel tank;- stahlflex fuel line as a protection against rub-through (Motorbike Hofschaller) plus filter and vacuum fuel pump from a XTZ 600 fitted;- quick couplings for the fuel line installed, because fuel tank dismounting is much easier now;- expanded and about 40 cm deeper stainless steel footrests for a relaxed knee angle mounted (Motobau);- Daytona heating grips for warm fingers all the time (Louis);- holder for our second toolbox at the inner side of our pannier racks mounted (folding downwards):- ammunition box as toolbox (cheap, solid and absolutely waterproof);- the cockpit had been equipped with diverse additional instruments like bicycle speedometer with outdoor temperature display (Sigma BC 1609), a two-step fuel gauge and a charging voltage display. Through the charging voltage display you recognizing problems with the voltage regulator immediately;- a 25 mm handlebar adapter and a Lucas aluminium handlebar mounted for a better comfort even in an upright position (Transalpforum);- progressive forks, as the original had been overstrained with the full loaded motorbike during offroad passages (Wilbers);- stahlflex brake line mounted in the front (Lucas);- the engine had been serviced completely once again (valve clearance adjusted, carburettor synchronized, spark plugs and all liquids changed);- steering head bearing renewed (Louis);- horn- and starter-protection mounted (AfricaTwin-Forum);- the gas mask box, which was fixed at the motor protection, had been replaced with a lockable aluminium toolbox (special design by our friend Reini Fleischer, see support);- one more bottle cage and a holder (home built) to fix our 3 L canister mounted on our second aluminium case;- chain lubrication system from CLS installed, as this is working extremely economical and still effectively. Also the annoying chain lubrication can be omitted now and the lifetime of the chain is increasing essentially (CLS);- as Bea´s Alp is a California model and this models have no center stand mounting, we had to bring the bike down to weld and mounting on! :-)

Right now a short overview about the changings in winter 2010 / 2011:

And this is how Bea´s Rosi looked like in the season 2010:Before our tour is starting in mid-June 2011, some more useful things like a bigger fuel tank, a center stand and diverse other details had to be added. Because of the mentioned 25 L “monster” Bea´s moped is called “Dicke Rosi” from now on! :-)

The temporary result:

Bea´s “Dicke Rosi” (“Big Rosi”). She´s also ready for the big trip!
